In the 2012 book, “HR from the Outside In”, the authors outlined six competencies for the future of human resources with one of those being 'Technology Proponent.' As noted in the book, HR professionals who strengthen their effectiveness in this domain have a greater opportunity to impact business success and increase HR value within their organizations.
The authors go on to outline three ways in which HR professionals can do this: improving the utility of HR operations through technology, leveraging social media tools, and connecting people through technology. They close out the chapter by stating, “This will be an important next-generation agenda item for HR professionals who wish to add greater value to their business.”
It may come as a surprise, but the "next generation" is now. HR and business professionals attending the SHRM 2014 Annual Conference and Exposition will have multiple opportunities to deepen their understanding of HR technology and strengthen their capabilities as Technology Proponents.
Tweet: Deepen your understanding of HR technology and become a tech proponent at #SHRM14
There are numerous sessions from which to choose including:
• Technology Meets HR: Selecting and Justifying the Right Solution
• How To Integrate Social Media and Technology into a Workplace Communication and Engagement Strategy
• Driving Business Results with Talent Management Strategy and Technology
• What Did That HR Tech Salesperson Say? Demystifying HR Technology Selection and Implementation
• Transforming Work: Are you Ready for the Future? (Smart Stage in the Connection Zone)
• So I’m a Time Starved Practitioner...Why Should I Care About Social Media? (Smart Stage in Connection Zone)
Attending sessions themed around HR technology will assist you in understanding the current state of the products available, how organizations are effectively utilizing HR technology, and also give you a framework for future planning. Even if you have no intention of purchasing a new HRMS solution in 2014, make sure to spend time in the Expo Hall and visit with vendor representatives to do some research and gather information. Strike up conversations and find out why a product or solution is relevant in 2014, what organizational issues it is designed to solve, and how it can help you deliver outstanding HR results.
If you’ve already made the decision to move to a new HRMS solution, then you’ve probably identified goals such as moving to a SaaS solution so you can access information from anywhere at anytime, centralizing employee records, and effectively organizing your workforce/HR information. You have a dream of finally ditching the spreadsheets, paper files and pieces of paper that clutter up your employee records and performance management processes. You may also be ready to move to an online onboarding solution that provides a new hire portal, digitizes forms/signatures, and allows users to set performance goals to help with career planning.
To learn how an HRMS solution can help you accomplish all these things, visit the team from HR Cloud at Island 2545 or connect with them through #SHRM14 to participate in hands-on product demos. The cloud based HR product offerings and demos, in addition to the HR Technology sessions are a great resource to take advantage of while at SHRM 2014.
And last but not least, it wouldn’t be the world’s largest gathering of HR professionals without some networking and fun. Join your fellow HR professionals at the NCHRA/PIHRA California Mixer on Sunday, June 22 at 7 PM. HR Cloud will be sponsoring this engaging networking event for California HR professionals, and it's just a short walk from the Orange Country Convention Center. Visit HR Cloud at Island 2545 to get your free tickets.
See you in Orlando!
